Hanjin Shipping implements an Environment Safety & Quality Policy
in a bid to grow as a total logistics company that is
respected globally.
We aim to provide our customers satisfaction and success,
investors with profits and employees with pride.
The environment, safety & quality policy provides the underlying
management philosophy, while basic behavioral guidelines provide
the best possible customer service, secure the safety of vessels
and personnel and promote the practice of eco-friendly management.
For an efficient practice of Environment, Safety & Quality Policy,
each team and division has developed their own separate goals, strategies and action plans. While all employees remain faithful to their responsibilities and duties, the CEO is responsible for efficiently delegating the responsibility and authority required for the operation of the system to those in charge.

Safety Management Program “Safety 365”
The shipping business is inevitably exposed to potential risks.
Therefore, exhaustive prevention plans are required as incidents at sea
can lead to both human and economic loss.
We classify potential accidents into loss of life, operational, and EQ
malfunction, among others, and we develop prevention plans for each
accident type in order to minimize impact. In the event of an accident,
we act according to established accident control procedures, enabling
an effective and quick response, regardless of the type of accident.
Following an exhaustive inspection into the causes of each case,
we then establish an appropriate correction plan and develop
countermeasures to prevent similar accidents from recurring.
Starting with on-the-spot inspections, the procedure continues with the collection and verification of records and data, interviews with related parties and observers, and examinations of accident scenes.
The inspection results are then recorded using a computerized accident control system, which then is reviewed and shared with other vessels as a preventive measure. Based on the analyzed results, correction requests are made when necessary to related teams as a follow up procedure.
Accident Prevention Plan
“Safety 365” Campaign on Our Owned Vessels
Since February of 2008, we have implemented the "Safety Together 365" Movement as part of our proactive prevention of accidents on board vessels as well as the promotion of safety control initiatives designed to raise employee awareness in regards to safety.
In 2001, the vessel operations department reiterated its commitment by staging a resolution rally and declaration event as well as posting of slogans and other such materials aboard all our vessels.
“Safety 365” campaign on Chartered Vessels
Compliance with international regulations, codes and customs are a prerequisite to economic and safe vessel operation The “Safety 365” campaign for chartered vessel was initiated in October of 2010 with the objective to prevent economic loss and improve corporate image through safe sailing, on-time operations, detention, and off-hire elimination.
By benchmarking the practices of leading global shipping companies, we continuously upgrade our safety and quality control systems using the extensive network with ship management agencies. In addition to distributing the Procedure Checklist, Monthly Quest, and Hanjin Safety Audit Handbook, we check and inspect the safety control of six selected chartered vessels every month. Meanwhile, in promoting the Safety Audit System, we host regular conferences with ship owners and instigate annual management plans for conducting audits.
All results and performances as well as safety inspection results are reported to management on a quarterly basis. Furthermore, we plan to develop PSC detention, off-hire, and audit monitoring systems on chartered vessels for safer and more economic operations.
Land and Vessel Joint Emergency Response Drill
Hanjin Shipping has established various scenarios by accident type in order to quickly identify potential accidents and promptly respond to them.
Vessel crews participate in monthly training drills designed to prepare them for potential onboard accidents. In addition, land and vessel crews conduct annual joint emergency response training.
After analyzing issues identified at each training session, such issues are rectified and reflected in subsequent training sessions in order to promote better responses to such situations. From 1998 to 2010, we have conducted a total of 18 land and vessel joint emergency response drills.
