Hanjin Shipping is to deploy "Hanjin Bremerhaven," the world's fastest, latest
6,655TEU containership, on its Asia-Europe trade.
On July 5, Hanjin Bremerhaven was christened at Hyundai Heavy Industries in
Ulsan, a south eastern city of Korea. Hanjin's owned super-high speed
container vessel is scheduled for deployment on the FEX (Far East Europe
Express Service) on July 11, 2006.
Hanjin Bremerhaven is the first installment of the company's series of eight
latest 6,500TEU-class newbuildings.
Focusing on super-high speed operation, Hanjin Bremerhaven can shorten the
transit time of the Asia-Europe trade by two days. Its speed of 27 knots
(50km/h) is one knot higher than that of recently-built 9,000 to 10,000TEU
vessels.
The world's fastest super-high speed container vessel weighs 58,000 DWT and
measures 304 meters long with 6,655 TEU capacity and 93,000 hp engine output.
Hanjin Shipping expects its latest owned vessel to further improve schedule
reliability and customer service.
The Korea's largest ocean carrier will deploy a total of eight super-high
speed owned vessels, including Hanjin Bremerhaven, on its main services by
early 2008. This plan is part of the carrier's heavy investment aimed at
making its fleet more competitive and providing better service.
